Cathy Schaefer

began her career with the internationally renowned firm, Chermayeff & Geismar, in New York, where she worked for ten years. As Senior Design Director, Cathy was responsible for corporate identity projects for clients including HarperCollins Publishers and Viacom. Cathy relocated to Mexico City for five years, established her own studio and was lead creative director for several children’s museums throughout Mexico with projects including identities, environmental graphics and print. She later moved to Boston and continued as a freelance designer prior to relocating to Maryland in 2009. In addition to graphic design, Cathy paints in oil and has exhibited in the Boston area. Originally from Minneapolis, received a BFA in graphic design in 1986 from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, graduating in the top three percent of her university class.

Ken Karlic

began his career as Art Director in several design studios in the Chicago and Baltimore areas. He later worked as Publication Manager at the Maryland Science Center at Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, where he was responsible for the creative direction of brand identity, print and exhibition graphics. Ken became Design Manager for a team of ten in the Exhibits Department, including content development, fabrication, audio-visual and graphics. Prior to co-founding Splice, Ken Karlic led his own studio for 15 years, with clients including the Guggenheim Foundation and Standard & Poor’s. In addition to graphic design, Ken paints in watercolor and exhibits regularly in the region. Originally from Chicago, he received a BFA in graphic design in 1986 from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
